Wolverine (Gulo gulo)

The wolverines habitat is mainly loacted in the montain area in north Sweden. The wolverine was protected by law in 1969 when the remaining part almost where extinct

The number of wolverine is today  estimate to 420 animals.

The wolverine has a circumpolar spreading, i.e. They live in the mountain and tundra area and the northern part of the coniferous woodlands in Europe, Asia and North America.

The wolverine lives in solitude in vast areas the main part of the year.

Belong to: Order Predator (Carnivora) Family Marten (Mustelidae)

Weight: Between 20 - 30 kilo for the male and between 10 - 20 kilo for the female.

Mating season: April - august, with the peak in june.

Pregnancy: The pregnancy is 9-11 moth long after the mating, but the real development of the fetus is approximately 2 month - so-called delayed growth of the fetus.

Wolverine cubs: The wolverine digs a den in the snow.  The wolverine cubs is born blind with white fur in february - mars. The weight is 100 gram. Usually the female give birth to 2-3 cubs in average every two year.
